Unboxing Craig from Sons of Henrey

Three eyelets derby is not so rare but also not so popular among shoe enthusiasts’ community. Let us have a check what this pair offers to be different.

Unboxing

Navy shoe box made of good textured material.

Information on sticker tells not too much, but the most important two are there, one is size of course, the other is Unique Selling Point of Sons of Henrey, the leather.

Sons of Henrey offers the best leather you can only see on very few premium brands, be more specific, Edward Green and John Lobb.

This pair is made of Pin Grain from French tannery Annonay.

Last

Classic Round last is a copy of the legendary last 202 from Edward Green, both of which are my favorite. However, hosting this American blucher, it loses all its elegance and looks very dumb.

I have a point that last can work the best with certain patterns, such as Pullman from Corthay works best with plain toe, and cap toe just ruins its sharpness immediately.

Pattern

Three eyelets plain toe derby.

To be honest, I was stunned when I had them on my hands, because I have a same pattern pair from Saint Crispin’s.

One seems deserving 1500 USD the other no more than 50 USD, and I believe you can judge which is which. But why?

The answer is the ears holding shoelaces.

Craig is a pair of Derby rather than Blucher, but it incorporates element of Blucher by changing the ear shape.

Leather

Although this leather is rare on dress shoes, I have seen it on Crockett & Jones shoes so far, but that does not mean that this leather looks good.

This finest grained leather looks like a scaled-down version of stingray leather.

Construction

Not the finest, but you won’t criticize it on this price point with solid stitches and edge fudge.

Summary

This is the most unsuccessful model offered by Sons of Henrey!
