Unboxing Badia Chelsea Boots from Handwelted Collection

I just summarized Badia’s collection of styles a few days ago, which surprised me. Because Badia has always been a Goodyear brand in my impression, why was it that most of them were Blake construction? With this question, I consulted JIANG Daoyuan, it turned out that Badia is working on product layout, and shoes in different directions will use different constructions. Blake focuses on lightweight shoes, such as the acclaimed horseshoe buckle Loafer, while the more classic styles will use handwelted construction. If the actual meaning of handwelting is that the shoe can be resoled more times, then the classic and exquisite models deserve it more which is logical.

Let’s take a look at this Chelsea boot from handwelted collection.

Is Wiracetas Bespoke?

Wiracetas is a Shanghai based dress shoe brand that I only came into contact with last year. It operates a physical store for several years in Shanghai already, and the founder Qiu Wuping is a super veteran of the industry. More than ten years ago, in the era when it was easiest to make money in everyone’s mouth, he made a fortune by making Goodyear shoes.

Unboxing City Mountain Boot Colville from J.FitzPatrick

Justin FitzPatrick, the founder and designer is very proud of this model, which is a combination of city boots elements such as dressy lasts and sleek sole with mountain boots. The concept is a mix of elegance and roughness. J.FitzPatrick is really good at put two extreme ends together, such as the old money butterfly with lovely colour clash.

Let us have a look at this pair.

Unboxing Chukka Boots Ambley from Sons of Henrey

A short introduction about Sons of Henrey first.

First of all, it is a Belgian brand because the founder, Tom Brone, is Belgian and has his office in Belgium.

Secondly, the shoes are made in Spain and share the same factory with many brands, including but not limited to J.FitzPatrick, Cobbler Union, Lof & Tung and Septieme Largeur.

Finally, the lasts were developed by Springline in the UK, and the upper design was made by Tom himself. The brand concept, Timeless Elegant, from the way I look at the shoes, is to imitate Edward Green.

The biggest selling point of Sons of Henrey is actually the leather. At this price point, you can’t get better leather.

Check out this pair.

Unboxing Penny Loafer from Bridlen

Bridlen is a stitched shoe brand from India. I know English shoemaker Loake has a product line that is made in India, but overall, India is not a big shoe country, let alone stitched shoes.

Theoretically, products from places with lower labor cost should offer higher value-cost ratio, but my observation (not actual experience) is not so, that the price is indeed very cheap, but the quality is also very poor. Bridlen obviously does not take this route, because their price is set at around 300 USD. Let’s take a look at the dress shoes made in India.
