In shoe aficionados’ eyes, John Lobb or Edward Green may be the best English shoes, but in American’s eyes, or for most outsider of this circle, Church’s is the best.
The reasons are different, for American, Church’s is the first one they can see in the US as early as 1920s. And for fashion consumers, Church’s belongs to Prada.
After the inquisition of Prada, the quality deteriorated dramatically, the main selling point is the polished leather which is in fact a leather covered by plastic. And the price is at 800 USD. I am not saying the price is too high, but definitely so for its leather.
The brand also lends to Prada owned Italian factory, so you can see Church’s Blake stitched with distressed leathers. Puke!

Remarks
To be fair, there are still some very iconic and classic models such as Consul and Chetwynd, but some very forward-looking designs are also present, which I consider it is better to use another brand. Prada/Kerring is just consuming this heritage brand.
Disgusting findings are:
- Bookbinder is so widely used on this classic shoe brand, and it shouts CHEAP for every second.
- The aesthetics is very chunky and low quality.
- Not a classic shoe brand any more.
- High fashion brand with a previous great name.
