Loafer Shopping Guide

The temperature is rising too fast, and you start to put on short trousers and short sleeves. What are the best shoes to wear? Here, I am limited to dress shoes. I have two answers, namely Boots and Loafers.

Boots, the rougher the better, make people think that you are going camping and survive in the wild. Loafer, of course, is a relaxing feeling for both indoor and outdoor.

Loafer is always underestimated. In the current context of dressing, Loafer is probably omnipotent. For example, is there any problem of matching navy or dark gray suit with a pair of black penny loafer?

So how to choose loafers?

This article is not in terms of aesthetics or colour, because this is relatively subjective. From a more practical point of view, it is fit and comfort.

I speak from three angles.

Believe me, you can’t find so intense information about fit of loafers on the internet.

They are forefoot, instep, back.

It must be strange, No size? No length? When we look at shoes, don’t we look at the length first?

That’s why I said that what I am talking about was deeper and more professional.

I certainly agree that the size is the first. If the length is not right, either you can’t wear it or your feet slip out.

Forefoot

You can think it’s about the width, but it’s not just the width. The best word is volume.

Let’s first talk about the problem of width, its point is not to squeeze your feet. Squeezing feet is painful, and most people are unwilling to bear it.

However, there are also cases where the width is right, but the dimension is not right.

Generally speaking, the height of the forefoot is high. Is there any harm to this? That is, there will be coarse folds.

For most people, this is not a problem, but it is important for players who pursue very good-looking shoes on their feet.

So is there a solution?

I have two.

First, of course, choose the right shoes for your feet. There is no other way but to try more.

Second, endure the pain. If it squeezes your feet a little at the beginning, but there is room in the height direction, then Break in and let the leather mold.

If you can choose, of course, choose the first solution.

Instep

The fixation of loafer comes from two places.

The back is the heel. For example, Oct Tenth likes to use a heel shape with stronger curvature, and the upper edge is obviously wrapping the heel. The disadvantage of this is that new shoes can’t be worn in, or the heel edge can be torn off.

The front is the instep.

I don’t know how many people have the experience of pressure on instep. I’ve experienced it so much on Grant Stone that my bones have been crushed.

What style of loafer has big pressure on the instep? It is the most well-known one, Penny loafer. Because it has a layer of leather strap at the instep. Although that layer of leather is neither wide nor thick, an extra layer of pressure can make your delicate feet miserable.

However, if you think that Penny loafer is the king of instep pressure, then you forget a style that enthusiasts love, Butterfly Loafer, this is the real king. You are happy with a piece of skin, right? Then I cross two pieces of leather!

This place can also break in, but compared with the break in the width of the forefoot, it takes much longer.

Because the leather at forefoot is repeatedly bent and softens faster, but the leather on the instep is basically not bent. It needs to be stretched out little by little.

Solution, when you try on the shoes, if you don’t move, you still feel uncomfortable after 5 minutes, give up.

Back body

This must be a concept that no one has put forward. Of course, it is also a higher requirement.

In this picture, if we look at the outside of the left foot, can we see the hollowness?

I really can’t think of anything else about this solution except bespoke.

Next, I will take loafers in my shoe store as an example to see what kind of feet are suitable for.

First of all, if the instep is relatively high.

This situation is very common among Asians. I recommend this pair of Carlos Santo’s Butterfly loafer, New.

What? You just said that Butterfly loafer is the king of instep pressure, and now you recommend Butterfly loafer to people with high instep?

Don’t worry, this pair of Butterfly loafer is different. Because it lets instep directly exposed. This design, with the name of low vamp, is generally found on smoking shoes.

Therefore, there is no pressure problem on this pair of butterflies.

Secondly, the front palm is wider.

Carlos Santos Elliot is already wide-foot friendly, but the more chubby Weston is more tolerant in width. And in addition to the width, Weston’s forefoot height is very enough, which you can say is suitable for people with fat feet.

But there is a reminder that Weston’s instep is very low. If you have a high instep, don’t think about it!

Finally, narrow back foot.

If a person has narrow back of his feet, you can consider J.FitzPatrick’s two butterfly loafers, Kennewick and Hawthorne, which are full of old money.

J.FitzPatrick’s last was developed by Tony Gaziano, and the instep is not high, which is suitable for more “exquisite” feet.

Conclusion

Well, these are the three deep items I summarised. Do you think there is anything else?
