It’s this picture that completely makes me love these shoes, the love is so dim that I forget time and space.
It’s been said that the Sons of Henrey Elegant Round last copied Edward Green’s 202 last, and the shoe couldn’t have said it better.
I love the 202 last, so I love the Elegant Round last.
To be fair, it is not purely copy as Elegant Round actually has a little smaller toe.
Pattern
It’s a pair of oxford with perforated Cap Toe, you may think of Edward Green Berkeley.
The only difference is Edward Green features its signature Swan Neck element on the quarter, while Harvey has the most conventional curve line.
Leather
Tom, the founder of Sons of Henrey has a strength in the acquisition of good leather, which is also the biggest selling point of Sons of Henrey. At its price level, you cannot find a competitor offering the same level leathers.
He introduced me to an old Italian man, 75 years old, a leather dealer. He said that this person is the most powerful leather dealer in Europe and has been in the business too long. He can talk directly with any tannery, even Roberto Ugolini buys leather from him.
The leather of this pair is Nevada leather from French tannery HAAS, which is also HAAS’s best product. Rich in oils and delicate in colour. Edward Green also uses this leather but with unique surface treatment inhouse. The colour is also classic and very sought after, Antique Dark Oak.
Craftsmanship
The welt stitches are good value for its price.
Conclusion
I don’t like to use the word cheaper alternative, because there is no cheaper replacement in this world.
Harvey is not a cheaper Edward Green Berkeley, but a pair of beautiful shoes with wonderful leather and last.
