A high end Italian shoe brand founded in Parma in 1917, although Italy has maybe thousands of shoe brands, this brand is one of some with great heritage.
But this word is not Italian, but English. Mr. Barrett, an English tannery owner came to Italy and bought a pair of shoes in Parma made by local workshop. He found the shoes are so comfortable and became a close friend of this workshop owner and also leather supplier. He registered this synonymous brand to sell to political figures.
In WWII, the factory was demanded to stop making high end dress shoes, but anything the army needed. After war, Barrett retreated to make dress shoes, but demand is so rare and was close to bankruptcy. The the current owner family stepped in. Barrett recovered and kept the love from political and entertainment figures.
