I’ve always been quite critical of Carlos Santos’ best-selling Elliot around the world because, well, it’s so featureless.
Although the lack of features is precisely why it sells the best, as most people don’t want the shoes to be special, plain is good.
But I always feel that the object of leather shoes, as a practical object, is becoming less and less attractive and more and more abandoned by the society, so I can only look at it as a kind of artwork, and artwork, needs to be created.
Shoes that are just a little bit different and need to be mastered, or leather shoes, but give a little bit of fun to the person wearing them.
These Butterfly Loafer, New is comfortable and special and a casual oatmeal suede option comes to the stage.
Unboxing
You can’t go wrong with a shoebox that doesn’t get tired of looking at it for a long time.
Information on the sticker on the side of the shoe box, 1798 is the numerical number for this style of New. Camurca means suede, the official name given to the colour is Cappuccino, , I think it’s an oatmeal colour as it is not as dark as cappuccino. Goodyear construction.
Last
Carlos Santos currently has at least 6 Loafer lasts, but I only chose the most conventional last, the 362. It’s unpretentious, but not without strength. The French rounded toe looks naive and is elegant on the foot.
Pattern
This is definitely not an ordinary pair of Loafers. I can’t believe anyone who loves leather shoes would see this and not look twice. The apron with brogue brings the old money feel.
Crossed strips form the narrow butterfly, which serves its greatest purpose, being high instep friendly.
The heel, a one-line design.
There’s a technical detail to this one.
Heels come in more varied shapes, such as the most common band-aid from Italian brands, which is a piece of leather that joins the two sides together. The most traditional, in the UK, is the so-called dog-tail style, which has the rounded top coming over to one side.
And do you know what the functionality of a dog’s tail is besides looking good? The answer is that the skin along the upper edge of the placed heel is torn.

I don’t know which tannery supplies this suede, and it’s safe to assume it’s not C.F. Stead, as it’s much softer.
The colour definitely comes first, giving a gentle premium feel, then soft and comfortable without the break in of leather.
Construction

This is another place that has changed since I’ve worn and owned a lot of shoes.
It used to be that I would think that open channel and close channel, the latter was better.
But now, I wear welted shoes every day, and no longer care whether a pair of shoes is open channel or close channel, as it really can’t make any difference to me as the person wearing them.

The leather midsole is specifically labelled which doesn’t seem necessary.
Suede heel lining.
This is a design that Carlos Santos as a brand is adamant about. The purpose is to be non-slip and the heel is not likely to slip out while walking.
Comfort and Fit
The last is conservative, but not naive as a loafer. The instep is very friendly. The leather is soft and doesn’t need to be broken in.
The biggest visual impression is that the whole shoe is a bit collapsed (probably because the sole is black, which makes people think that only the light-coloured part of the shoe is the shoe, so the shoe is collapsed on the ground), which brings the ‘sloppy feeling’ of the riches.
