My Shoe Collection, Joffre from Septieme Largeur

French brand Septieme Largeur draws a lot of attention and interest globally because its three selling points, great price, wood pegging on the waist and superb patina.

Except these general advantages, Septieme Larguer also has two iconic models, one is wholecut Gedeon on French last 199, the other is three strap monk boot.

But you know me, a black cap toe oxford man, I still chose a pair of Adelaide oxford on last 206.

Because I have reviewed the shoes in the unboxing, in this article I put more emphasize on fit and leather quality.

Fit

From give angle, I believe everyone would say it should be very comfortable as the room seems very enough.

Let us change the angle and this photo gradually uncovers the answer. Please note where its widest point is.

The answer is, the fit is quite pressing on the little toe, even painful.

Blue circle is the widest area of the shoes or last, however red triangle is my foot’s widest region. This mismatch makes me hurt.

The reason is that maybe last 206 looks like English last, in fact, it is still French and accommodates French narrow feet no matter how round and blunt the toe is.

This pair teaches me maybe the toe is round, it is not elongated, however where the widest point is also decides the aesthetics and fit of the shoes.

Leather quality

The situation happening on this pair is quite common on mid range brands.

The upper leather of left foot is superb. Du Puy leather is really a good choice.

Right foot, I am speechless.

I am not a leather expert and not sure why this happened. Maybe it is the grain of substrate is too coarse, or the adhesion between coating and leather is flawed. To me, it is not a fine look.

As in mass production, not a single brand can guarantee same pattern of both feet uses the symmetric locations of the leather. Sometimes, not even a same piece of leather. So the big difference of two feet is foreseeable.

Details

Seven nails on the toe front to improve abrasive resistance.

Conclusion

The appearance may be English, but the heart is French.

Great shoes with various level of leather quality.
