Recently, I suddenly have a strong rejection of the leather sole.
I have always been a lover of leather soles. Among my so many shoes, 95% are leather soles and have no rubber on top of it.
Recently, because I read a lot about sustainable development, I thought that leather soles are relatively easy to be damaged. Compared with rubber soles, if they are worn for 20 years, they need to be replaced more times.
Look back at yourself, why choose leather sole.
In fact, I really don’t remember the answer to this question, and I can be sure that it has nothing to do with vanity.
My wife and her friends talked about my shoes and they commented that leather sole shoes were worn on the red carpet. I was very surprised when I heard this for the first time. So shoes with leather soles are seen this way?
It seems that after entering this field, the shoes you buy are naturally leather-soled.
It’s not that there is no rubber sole option, but it was non-mainstream.
Then stand in my position today, and then look at the reasons why I may choose leather soles, and whether there are any tenable ones. I can think of only one.
Good looking
It’s not the big pattern of the forefoot sole like Paolo Scafora, nor the golden sole like Carlos Santos, or the more familiar red sole of Christian Louboutin, but the aesthetic experience like the fiddleback or London waist.
Big patterns and colors are all innovations, and they are all more eye-catching ways. There is nothing wrong with them. It’s just that seasoned connoisseurs like to play with details.
This beautiful curve is impossible to achieve with rubber soles.
TLB Mallorca is the brand working on the rubber sole most meticulously, and it has achieved a very narrow waist, but other details and textures are really incomparable.
Once the rubber sole was basically the Dainite sole, which caused the problem that it was not elegant enough and the sole was thick, but with the popularity of the City sole, the sole was no longer heavy. Looking from the top or profile, it is difficult to tell whether it is a leather sole or a rubber sole.
I have mountaineering sole shoes, Dainite sole shoes, Vibram sole shoes, Mattina Ravel, which uses Vibram lightweight Gumlite soles. I always think they are the choice for rainy days, or more casual dress.
There is always a mind at work: formal dress shoes are leather-soled.
But for the sake of environmental protection, sustainability, and replacing soles less often in 20-30 years, I want to choose rubber soles.
It is not an illusion to wear it for 20-30 years, it is not a contradiction to buy so many pairs of shoes for environmental protection. But in the end, all consumption is to flaunt what kind of person you are with money.
