Unboxing Iconic Derby Cherry from Maftei

Maftei is a Viennese bespoke shoemaker, however this model is highly praised and welcomed, so I bring them to Chinese shoe lovers by GMTO method. Let us have a look and you know why they are called Cherry.

Unboxing

preview

Shoe box of Maftei is not impressive at all and I always want to persuade Mr. Maftei to make them more concrete and luxury but in vain. However, the shoe bags are quite good as they are made of cashmere which you never see from other shoemakers.

Small piece of leather tag with handwritten Maftei logo.

Shoes slightly slipped out of shoe bag.

Last

Last 775, or Pei is the most iconic last from Maftei and the best presentive of Austrian shoemaking. Although I have seen this last on many models, however I feel wingtip or split toe suits it best as the pattern softens the square and high-rise toe.

Pattern

The name comes from two sides, one is the colour which needs no description, the other is last and wingtip pattern which make it a lovely cherry.

This pattern is very unique and only seen on Maftei shoes. Wingtip has two more ordinary variants, longwing and short wing, however Maftei make it still shorter.

Then two eyelet derby reminds people of Corthay Arca, however, this pair of Cherry features a much more artful ear shape. Overall is really a masterpiece.

Seamless heel is the signature of Maftei shoes.

Construction

Handwelted construction with super narrow waist.

Sole is handstitched and you can see each stitch sits right on the fudge.

Blind waist.

Leather

Fine crust leather from French tannery Du Puy.

The leather is very supple and the colour is hand painted.

Details

The small piece of rubber on the heel is Vibram.

Conclusion

It is not easy to pair these shoes with clothes as they are too outstanding, however you cannot deny they are a good piece of art.
