Unboxing Thomas from SLIMSHOES/Yearn Shoemaker

SLIMSHOES is the domestic brand of Yearn Shoemaker which is more well known globally. Unlike most shoemakers in this niche market, SLIMSHOES opened mono-brand boutique since the beginning. Two shops locate in premium department stores.

This is my first pair of SLIMSHOES/Yearn Shoemaker, let us have a look.

Unboxing

Racing green shoe box, the material is quite thick. Logo is in the center。

On the side of the cover there is a more refine and artful logo.

A sticker contains all the information about this pair. Model name Thomas, colour museum brown, client me, size 39.

Remove the cover, print paper with three Chinese characters, MADE IN CHINA.

Shoe bags are made of linen and this is the first time I met.

Shoehorn is made in metal, maybe steel or copper, then wrapped in orange leather.

The touch and colour are so amazing.

Last

Square toe tells it absorbs a lot from George Cleverley.

Pattern

Brogued cap toe oxford with medallion. I feel the proportion is quite good although vamp is somehow short.

Leather

On the sticker, it mentions museum brown, however the marbled affect seems very different with museum calf I had seen many times. The reason? This museum affect is achieved by hand paint, you can call it patina. SLIMSHOES mainly uses leather from Italian tannery Bounado which focuses on crust for patina.

Personally I don’t like the effect as Museum calf actually mimics natural age, or you can call it patina, and it should be subtle, however this paint looks too exaggerated.

Lining leather looks very fine and supple.

Outsole

Close channel, obvious beveled waist.

Construction

The biggest selling point is SLIMSHOES are 95% handmade, which means it is handwelted and handstitched. I would like to compare it with Vass. The stitch density is higher than Vass.

Conclusion

SLIMSHOES is a quite new brand and it may need some time to refine its products. However the price offers handwelted and handstitched specification, I firmly believe it will have a position in many shoe enthusiasts’ wardrobe.
