After Alfred Sargent was basically taken over by Bowen (France), private label manufacturing in UK laid on Joseph Cheaney & Son’s shoulder. Although most fashion brands would choose Italian workshop or Portugese factory for this task, Made in England still has its glamour.
This brand is in fact in the hand of Church family, yes, that Church owned by Prada, which brings to aspects to Cheaney, one Cheaney can make quality shoes, two Cheaney leans to overpriced (if Church’s can, I can too).
We all know many brands have different collections to cover different levels or price points, such as John Lobb has Classic and Prestige, Crockett & Jones Main and Handgrade, TLB Mallorca Main and Artista. So guess how many Cheaney has? the answer is whooping 10. I don’t even have the interest to learn what they are.
As always, sneakers and glued dress shoes are churned out.
Conclusion
There are certainly great designs, but many entry level shoes trigger the image of Barker or Loake. In general, very bad value price ration.
