An Interview with LV Ziqiang

I’m afraid not many people know the name LV Ziqiang, but LV Wuren (Five nuts) may have been seen on social media.

Ziqiang is a bespoke tailor in Solari Chengdu, which complements the founder Riccardo (ZHANG Renjie). Why is it called Wuren (five nuts)? Because he likes to eat moon cakes with five kernels.

Let’s hear his story together.

Briefly introduce yourself.

I was born in 1995. My hometown is Heilongjiang.

In addition to suits, there are a wide range of hobbies.。

Like guitar, skateboarding, models, motorcycles, free diving, etc.

Are you a tailor?

I think I am a tailor.

Some people will think that only when a person’s clothes are well made can he be called a tailor, but maybe I don’t think so.

My understanding of tailoring is a type of work and a profession.

I am doing this job in this industry now, which is also an attribute to my outside world.

I don’t think there is any problem with the title of tailor.

How did you meet Riccardo

Riccardo and I followed each other on Instagram a few years ago.

Later, it was found that he had returned to Chengdu, and we were both very young.

He has experience as a tailor in Milan. We have the same interest in suits, and both like to play motorcycles, so they built connection.

Why joined Solari?

I have thought about being a tailor for a long time.

At the beginning of my career in this industry, someone told me that stores and production workshops are two different career development directions. When you are a tailor, you can’t learn about guest reception, fabrics, and fitting in the store; if you do store sales, you can’t learn how to make suits. This direction must be decided at the beginning.

As I learned more and more about the industry, I found that it was not easy to become a tailor. It is necessary to do a good job in the psychological expectations of the long-term learning process, because it requires strong patience and dedication.

After the precipitation of my personality and the clarity of my career direction, I expressed my idea with Riccardo, which also explained the confusion at the beginning of my industry.

Solari’s business mode is just in line with my inner thoughts. The tailor can carry out all the processes of reception, sales, fitting, pattern making and production in the store. The style is also interesting to me.

So I wanted to join.

What kind of experience did you have before joining Solari?

Before joining Solari, I worked in other bespoke tailoring houses, first in W.W. Chan & Sons (Chengdu), where I worked for about four years.

W.W. Chan & Sons closed the store in 2021. I have learned a lot there, and I am very grateful for the professional learning experience in the past few years.

After that, I went to other houses to study.

After all kinds of things, I found that it was far from what I wanted to do, and I was also confused and planned to change my career.

I have been a waiter in a coffee shop and a sales in shopping mall.

I wanted to grasp the point in my heart, which made me decide what I am doing now.。

Can you reconcile your style of clothes with Solari?

Before I was ready to join Solari, I had a certain understanding of Solari style.

I agree with Riccardo’s aesthetics and craftsmanship very much, and it fits well with his personality.

The whole team needs a soul figure to determine the overall production structure and aesthetic direction. Everyone in the team should follow this direction, because a bespoke house cannot produce two styles, and the production should be stable and have a unity.

I am compatible with Solari style.

What style of clothes do you usually wear?

It is a style that combines casualness and chicness. It is not a specific style.

After you have played this thing for a long time and have a certain understanding of many styles, you will pick some of the characteristics that are suitable for you, and then rearrange and combine them into the feeling you want.

The style may precipitate over time, from something that does not belong to you at all, to gradually form something that does.

In the early stage, it is basically based on learning and imitation. If you play more, you will naturally form your own style.

Would you suggest how to wear Solari clothes?

I don’t have any suggestions, because after all, people wear clothes. Everyone decides how to wear it according to everyone’s occasion.

But I hope you can take good care of this suit, because it is really greatly made.

What are your plans for the future?

When it comes to future plans, in fact, if you decide to be a tailor, you will not develop as a short-term career.

Because if you lengthen your tailor career, it is actually a profession that can be old for a long time.。

If I have the opportunity, I will go to Italy to study and improve my skills and aesthetics.

I hope that I can always keep my love for this industry and the profession of tailoring, and continue to do it.

I think it is enough to be conscientious and responsible for each guest’s clothes and bring a good-looking, easy-to-wear and comfortable suit to others.
