How Do You Think of George Cleverley?

George Cleverley was born in a shoemaking family in London on August 10th, 1898. As a child, he sold shoelaces and shoe polish. He was stationed in London at the age of 15 and then joined a military shipyard in Calais, France.

After the war, he joined Nikolaus Tuczek, an upper-class shoemaker in London on Clifford Street in Mayfair. He stayed there for 38 years. George left Tuczek in 1958 and opened G.J. Cleverley on Cork Street in Mayfair, London.

Cleverley’s last and beautiful toe cap became the symbol of its extraordinary craftsmanship on Cork Street.

George died in 1991 at the age of 93, and he worked almost all the time until his death.

In 1978, George Cleverley decided to make John Carnera and George Glasgow his students, and eventually become his successors.

After working with Mr. Cleverley for more than 20 years, George Glasgow Sr. took over the company after his death. At the same time, his son joined the company.
