362 is Carlos Santos’ most popular loafer Last. It is a mixture of English harmony, French elegance and American casual, which is easy and impossible to make mistakes.
What’s even more impressive is that it takes comfort into account. There is enough space inside, but the contour is still elegant.
Pattern
The model name New is a tribute to British menswear brand, New & Lingwood which offers a signature butterfly loafer.
The origin of the butterfly loafer is George Cleverley (he once provided bespoke shoes service for New & Lingwood).
Of course, except for the brogued apron, the other elements are different, such as the butterfly has been shrunk and become more delicate.
In my unboxing article, I mentioned that this change, in addition to the aesthetic style, has a more obvious impact on fit and it is much more instep-friendly.
This vamp design, after I have worn it for a while, I like it more and more. It is both classic and outstanding, and it makes people who are in the know applaud.
The one line back seam is a no-brainer.
Leather
Carlos Santos’ leather performance is quite unexpected, because I have seen many brands and shoes that have unbearable leather quality, and the expectation of Carlos Santos has never been high, but the creases of leather are very delicate.
Sole
This style has two sole options: leather sole and rubber sole. I chose rubber sole.
The reason is for harsh use. If it rains in the middle during my long trip, the leather bottom suffers.
The black upper leather is not afraid of water, which brings out the best in each other.
Construction
The stitch density of the welt is the same level as Crockett & Jones Benchgrade collection, but rubber sole brings a new problem, that is, the sole is thicker and rougher, and then the chamfering along the edge of the strip is not as exquisite as that of the leather sole.
Summary
I often wear navy blue suits and black shoes on business trips. It must be a perfect match. This pair of loafer can be formal and (semi-) casual, and the style is fine for both laymen and seasoned connoisseurs.
