The care of leather shoes is a pleasure in the eyes of many people, and it is also a small evening activity on weekends when you empty yourself and get a sense of accomplishment. But for some others, it may be a task that needs to be done but not enjoyed. For the latter type of person, there is an answer that I want to know, if I only use one care product, which is the best?
Firstly, there are three care products, conditioner, cream and polish wax.
I read an article on Crockett & Jones official website; it recommends just applying polish wax.
My personal answer is conditioner.
So, if I only use shoe cream, is it good or bad? There are good and bad, but my comprehensive conclusion is: not good.
Let’s start with the pros.
No matter it is conditioner, cream or polish wax, the main ingredients are grease and wax, the latter two also contain pigments. Because of the different functional focus, the proportion is not the same.
The advantage of cream compared to conditioner is that after one application, the conditioning function is also played, the color unevenness is also fixed, and then there is a layer of shine. One shot, three functions.
Moreover, as the number of uses increases, a mirror shine is formed in parts that do not bend. Because the wax is stacked layer by layer.
This toe of this pair is a good example, compared to the real mirror shine, it is not so transparent. But it is already very good for everyday wear.
There are two parts of dress shoes that like mirror effect, one is the toe and the other is the heel.
From my point of view, good looks may only account for less than 50% of the reason, more importantly, these two places are the easiest to bump, thick wax can play a protective role.
The above are all the advantages of using only cream, what are the cons?
Left feet is the state after I used RenoMat to strongly remove the old cream, and it cannot be said that it was completely removed, but compared with the one on the right foot, the luster of the left foot is milder, and although the right foot is bright, it gives me a sense of artificial delusion.
Good leather should see very fine pores.
On the right foot, you can see that, in addition to the pores being covered, there are some small scales, which are hardened and crusted dye.
It is a trifle in appearance, but it is a big issue when applying care products, and it will not touch the leather itself at all.
Summary
Except for the Vamp area, only applying cream is OK, because even those areas cannot be cared, there is no bending, and it is not easy to crack. But Vamp should use conditioner.
